From GCloud : The Melodic features of the Five Year Plans initiated by late Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, the first PM of Swatantra Bharat / India

The first FYP was initiated from 1951-1956 & the second, from 1956-61.The first one was focused on Agriculture and Energy while the second one on the Public sector, like dams, etc.

Film Producer Baburao Pai of Famous Pictures' musical hits like Pyar Ki Jeet ('48), Badi Bahen ('49), Bapu Ki Amar Kahani documentary ('49) used to take interest in producing similar such short documentary films.

One of them was a practically forgotten one, titled  KYA BAAT HAI ('56) highlighting the significance of the Five Year Plans. The lyrics were penned by Qamar Jalalabadi and the music by Husnlal-Bhagatram. During 1948-53 or so the duo were the most popular MDs and reeled of many popular numbers in the voices of Lata Mangeshkar, Md Rafi, Geeta Roy, Shamshad, etc.

This particular blog features a very significant, but rare / forgotten melody for the benefit Cine music lovers all over India and abroad......from GCloud :

Zeenat Begum - One of her RARELY HEARD film solo from GCloud for music rasikas

G.M.Durrani once told me during a chat session just a couple of years prior demise that Zeenat Begum was one of the finest singers having a distinct rendition-style of her own.

She was able to exhibit 'khanak' in her rendering hat added an unusual lustre in the melody. Other examples of singers displaying khanaks were Akhtarbai & M.S.Subbalaxmi as well.

This particular one does not possess any like that - but the song has been  soulfully rendered in her heavy voice. MD: Qadir Faridi has maintained a steady rhythm throughout the song and well orchestrated.

Enjoy this wonderful beauty of beauties - from a noisy 78rpm to this one !!

4 film songs (3 Hindi, 1 Tamil) - Melodic Evaluation

2 heroines in love with the same hero - relating ( singing) their respective woes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The MDs involved in each : Pt Govindram; Anil Biswas; Naushad & G.Ramanathan resptly

After listening to all of them intently - without any prejudice  towards any of them - I have sincerely felt that G.Ramanathan has SCORED BETTER  in terms of imparting melodic novelty in the emotional song. The brief  'aalaps' by P.Leela & Jikki in turn are a treat to listen...highlighting their respective emotions.

GR always used to like the creations of MD : Naushad. Why ? He used to say that they were very simple in structure. In the concerned Tamil song, the orchestration has been done in Naushad's style .

Second comes Pt Govindram for his presentation wherein Zohrabai redeems her rendering class on the higher scale.  The orchestration is smooth flowing and harmonius melodically.Rajkumari's rendition , in contrast has been sober and subdued.

Third ranks Anil Biswas. Ramsingh's saxaphone pieces alone, add lustre to the overall melody. Without that ... just imagine ! The song is simple in style . Lata's voice quality/timbre thence, was the FINEST of her entire career.

Fourth goes to Naushad - Simple composition and soulfully emoted by both, Shamshad & Lata.

The fourth song is uploaded in the next blog for want of space
